What do I need to bring for my first appointment?

Please bring a copy of your photo ID and insurance card. If you had any imaging done prior to your appointment, please bring a copy of your imaging report and CD. Please make sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. If you are running late or unable to make it to your appointment, please call our office to let us know at 718-206-6923.

How do I make an appointment?

You can call any of our offices directly to make an appointment. You can also request an appointment through our website or email appts@orthomedisys.org. One of our team members will call you to confirm your appointment.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most insurance plans, including no fault and workers compensation. Although, some insurance plans may have a co-payment or co-insurance.  It is best to call the office to confirm prior to your appointment so you do not get any unexpected bills.

Do I need a referral?

Some insurance plans require a referral to be seen by a specialist. Please double check with your insurance company to see if you require a referral prior to your appointment. If so, please make sure to send us your referral prior to your appointment.

Where do I park?

Each of our offices has street parking. Our Jamaica location also has a parking garage off of 89th Avenue and the Van Wyck Expressway. Please make sure to bring your parking voucher and give it to the front desk when you come in for your appointment.

Is there someone who can help me with forms?

Yes, you can ask any of our staff whatever questions you have. Please let them know what kind of form you have so they can advise you on any questions you may have. Please note,  all forms are completed within 7 to 10 business days from the day we receive them.

  • Will I need physical therapy after surgery?
  • What are the non-surgical treatment options?
  • When can I return to work and daily activities?
  • What should I expect immediately after surgery?
What are possible surgical complications?

Surgery is an invasive procedure that carries inherent risk. Prior to obtaining written consent, your surgeon will discuss the surgery’s risks, benefits and alternatives. Additionally, any risks related to anesthesia will be addressed by a member of the anesthesia team. Please speak with your surgeon or a member of their team if additional clarification is necessary.

Will I need physical therapy after surgery?

Getting full range of motion, strength, and flexibility back after surgery usually takes time. That is where pre-operative exercise, education, and post -operative physical therapy programs come in – to ensure you are physically and emotionally prepared for surgery and to maximize your recovery after surgery.

What are the non-surgical treatment options?

The non-surgical treatment options include rest, medications including analgesics and antibiotics, injections, and physical/occupational therapy.

When can I return to work and daily activities?

This varies depending on the type of procedure undergone, the type of work you do and can range from a few days to a few months. Return to all activities, sports and exercise can take up to four to six months. Your doctor will advise you depending on your health condition.

What should I expect immediately after surgery?

With just about any orthopedic surgical procedure, including joint replacement surgery and revision surgery (replacing a worn-out artificial joint from a previous surgery), you’ll have some pain and swelling. Your surgeon and clinical team will work with you to effectively manage your pain and ensure you’re healing as expected.
